Overview
Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine that can develop in childhood or adulthood.

Symptoms
Often asymptomatic early; may cause uneven shoulders or hips, back pain, or progression in severe cases.

Diagnosis
Physical exam and spine X‑ray to measure curve angle.

Treatment
Observation, bracing for growing children, and surgery for severe or progressive curves.

When to seek care
New or worsening curvature, pain, or neurologic symptoms should be evaluated.
