Piriformis syndrome involves irritation of the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle in the buttock.

Symptoms
Buttock pain radiating down the leg, worsened with sitting.

Diagnosis
Clinical exam; other causes of sciatica should be excluded.

Treatment
Stretching, physical therapy, NSAIDs, and activity modification.
