Overview
Pes cavus is an abnormally high arch that can lead to foot instability and pain.

Causes and risk factors
It can be hereditary or associated with neurologic conditions.

Symptoms
Foot pain, ankle instability, calluses, and difficulty fitting shoes.

Diagnosis
Physical exam, gait assessment, and imaging if needed.

Treatment
Orthotics, supportive footwear, physical therapy, and sometimes surgery for severe deformity.

When to seek care
Recurrent ankle sprains or significant pain should be evaluated.
